Spring Skin Tips
Teri Eastin, LE | Owner, Atlanta Acne Specialists
I know the weather makes it feel like winter will never end. Believe it or not Spring is right around the corner! That means Spring Break is too. Here are the top 5 skin tips for Spring.
1. Hydrate internally and externally
That means drink at least ½ your body weight in ounces of water.
And apply moisturizer morning and night, even if you’re oily. Water based hydrators are great for summer months when it’s more humid.
2. Protect - Wear SPF every single day of the year!
It’s the single most important anti-aging step you can do for your skin. Additionally, if you use products like AHAs, Benzoyl Peroxide or Retin-A it’s even more important because those all make your skin more sensitive to the sun’s rays to prevent UVA (aging rays) damage. UVA rays don’t cause a reaction like a burn the UVB rays do. However, they go deepest in the skin and do the most damage. We don’t see that damage for 20-30 years. When we start to see that damage it’s much harder to repair. Use spf daily instead. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, as they say…
3. Clean out the clutter
Springtime is the perfect time to purge unused skincare products. If you’ve had products in your drawer or under your sink for over a year (or more) it’s time to throw them out and get some fresh products. We’d love to help you replenish if you’re in the market.😉
4. Swap out products seasonally.
Everyone’s skin is different and one thing we see a lot is clients who need different products in summer vs winter. If you tend toward dry skin you might use a creamy cleanser, hydrating toner and heavier moisturizer in the winter. In summer, you may use a gel cleanser, salicylic toner and water based moisturizer since it’s warmer and more humid.
5. Be sure to change out of exercise clothes immediately after workouts.
Staying in workout clothes keeps sweat and moisture trapped against your skin which can lead to breakouts around your sports bra and bottom. If you’re acne prone, showering within 30 mins after workouts or sports games/ practices is imperative for reducing breakouts.
Spring Break/ Prom/ Wedding season will be here soon! If you’d like to get your skin in shape for a special event or plan to wear a backless dress or bathing suit soon, now's the time to start improving your skin. In order to significantly reduce acne it takes at least 90 days so there’s no time like the present to get started. Our Acne Specialists would love to help you achieve clear glowing skin!
